Pastor G. Christopher Bates
Gregory Christopher Bates was born on January 3rd, 1970 to Rev. David Bates, Jr. and the late Mrs. Jessica L. Bates in New Orleans, Louisiana. Accepting Christ at the tender age of six, Chris, as he is affectionately known, became actively involved in the activities of his home church-The Mount Salem Missionary Baptist Church of New Orleans, where his father, Rev. David Bates, Jr. still serves as Pastor. Pastor G. Christopher Bates also became actively involved in the Youth Department of the Ideal Missionary Baptist and Educational Association, Inc. of New Orleans.
G. Christopher Bates was educated in the Jefferson Parish Public School System. He graduated in 1988 from the L.W. Higgins Senior School in Harvey, Louisiana. In the summer of 1988, Rev. Bates began attending Southern University at New Orleans. There he studied Commercial Art and Speech Communication until 1990. In 1992, Pastor Bates moved to Dallas, Texas in order to pursue his educational aspirations. In Dallas, he united with the East Gate Baptist Church-Serving under Pastor H. D. Reagan. At the East Gate Church, Pastor Bates met the love of his life, the lovely Linda Kaye (Jackson)-Whom he married on March 29th, 1997. On August 11th, 1998 God-Almighty blessed this union with the birth of the beautiful Melody’e Kaelyn Bates.
In 2003, Rev. G. Christopher Bates was called to the Pastorate of the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. The Lord has given Pastor Bates a profoundly unique preaching style that reaches both seasoned and sunrise saints. His God-given ability to incorporate both a traditional and contemporary flow in his delivery adds a familiar, yet refreshing flavor to the life-impacting messages that he preaches. First-Lady Kaye Bates also serves as Minister of Music of the Rising Star Church. God has put together an awesome ministry team in this young, yet seasoned preacher/pastor and this gifted and accomplished musician/psalmist. To God be the glory for all that He has done and continues to do through the ministry of Pastor G. Christopher Bates.
In 1982 at the age of 12, Pastor Bates began to hear his call to the ministry of gospel preaching. However, it was not until 1987, at the age of 17 that Pastor Bates accepted and acknowledged this call. And later that year, he preached his first sermon-Entitled “Where Shall I Serve”. Pastor Bates was issued his license to preach in 1998 by his father, who is also the son of a gospel preacher/pastor-The late Rev. David Bates Sr. of Natchez, Mississippi. After completing six months of study, under Dr. Walter J. Hardy, G. Christopher Bates was ordained in 1989 by the Ideal Missionary Baptist and Educational Association, Inc. and then president, Dr. Morris Burrell.
